Who we are

We are a recreational slow-pitch softball co-ed league (originally formed back in 1995) which is made up of teams from around Hampshire & West Sussex. The league currently has 14 local clubs split into three divisions (B & C grade) and all of them are looking to enjoy a summer of fun games whilst competing to win their respective divisional championships.
Outdoor league games and practice sessions are played at several venues around the region:
PORTSMOUTH                   = Tangier Field, Tangier Road, Baffins, PO3 6PZ
CHICHESTER                       = Oaklands Park, Wellingston Road, PO19 6AP
SOUTHAMPTON                = Wide Lane, Eastliegh, SO50 5PE
There are regular league social events organised throughout the year including the annual family picnic day, charity quiz nights and the lavish end of season awards party. As well as these events, each of the sports clubs organise their own team social nights too! Many of the games & practice sessions tend to finish with a BBQ or a drink in the local pub. The league and its clubs contain a varied mixture of ages and abilities with players coming from all walks of life, which helps to make it a very social sport. The emphasis is very much on getting everyone taking part and having fun (we’re not just looking for the fastest runners or the biggest hitters – anyone & everyone are welcome to play!)
The SSL Committee

League Chairman
Mike Doe

League Secretary
Zoey Williams

Zoey is now in her 2nd year as league secretary.
She has plenty of experience in the position though, after being the University teams' secretary in previous seasons.
If you can be a secretary of a University team, then you can pretty much do anything.
Mike has tekn on the role of Chairman after being the 2015 membership & Fixtures officer.
Mike has plenty of experience of running  things as he has also spent the last three years running SSL tournaments.

Mike has some big shoes to fill, but he is certainly up for the job.

Recruitment Officer   East
Andy Burgess

Recruitment Officer West
Matt Andrews

Andy continues in his very successful role of recruitment officer for the SSL.
The league has enjoyed expansion since he took up the role, with his hard work paying off with two new teams entering the league in 2014.
Andy coaches the indoor sessions for new players in the winter and works tirelessly to make sure the league is the success that it is.
Matt enters his third year in the league, but what he has done in such a short time is outstanding.
Due to his passion for the game, there will be two new teams from Southampton this year.
Matt will captain his beloved Spitfires in division 2 for the 2016 season hoping to challenge for promotion to division 1.

Welfare Officer
Bryan Barry

Publicity and Media Officer
Sefton Chatfield

Bryan created the position of welfare officer as the league didnt have one until the 2014 season. The league had the relevant documents, but no one to look after them, a point of contact for insurance, or someone to organise our young player registration and competency.
Bryan has taken that role on and hit the ground running, completing the required courses to make sure he is up to speed.
Sefton was voted in to the role of publicity and media officer after sending game reports into the local media during the 2013 season.
He also runs the league Twitter account and helps out on the facebook page too. He also updates the league website and submits game reports to the Portsmouth News and Southampton Echo. Wow he does a lot, and he's so good looking too.

Umpire in Chief
Adam Charlton

Membership & Fixtures
Lauren Cummings

Adam, better known as Slappy, enters his second year as UIC.
He has brought many ideas to the table and keeps coming through with new ways to try to make our game better and safer.
He also has the task of making sure every game has a blue or two, which will be no mean feat this year with the amount of games the league will feature this season
Lauren has taken on the role of membership & fixtures officer after taking over towards the end of 2016 to help out with fixtue congestion at the end of the season.
Lauren is a established member of te Zombies and a well respected batter in the league.

Coaching Officer West
Kat Carter

Coaching Officer East
Carl 'Toddler' Simmonds

Kat takes the role of West Coaching officer for the 2017 season.
Full of knowledge, Cat will provde valuable assistance to the up and coming hotbed of softball that is Southampton.
Cat is a constant for SSL tournament teams travelling to take on the rest of the country.
Toddler is a great all rounder and a well liked player in the league.
Carl has assisted and taken a lot of the rookie indoor sessions the league carries out during the winter months.
Carl now takes on the role that he has enjoyed helping with for a number of years.

Solent 'C'
Scott Amero

Finance Officer
Sarah Cole

Scott has run many tournament teams through the years and will now lead the Solent C tournament team as they take new and experienced league players out to UK tournments to give them tounrament experience.
A barrell (or keg) of fun will be had with Scott at the helm.
Sarah has been a Zombie since they were established back in 2014.
A well liked player across the league, Sarah gives 100% in every game and will do in her new role as the leagues finance officer.

Matt Tebb

Matt has been playing in the league for some time now, and takes up his new role full of ideas (we hope) and looking to progress the 1st ball, summerball and lastball tournaments the SSL hold every year.
He has also joined a new team for the 2016 season, the OAPs.
